Question

Assalamualaikum

I gave birth (for the first time) on the 22nd of April at 06:00pm and finished bleeding and made ghusal in the 22nd of May 04:00am. I haven’t had any bleeding since until today 30th May 11:30am.

Would today be considered my 38th day of nifaas. If I am still bleeding after the 40th day 06:00pm is it considered istihatha? Also when would it be considered haidh.

I don’t remember the exact days I bled in May and June. But it was around the same time as the other months (mid month) and approximately 5 to 6 days.

According to this msg I made a mistake. The 30th of May should have been my 29th day if nifaas according to the calendar. But according to my previous msg I made ghusal on the 1st of June evening. After that I bled on and off.

I saw a small brown spot on my pad yesterday which is the 16th day after my nifaas. But since then I haven’t bled so I assume that was isrihatha and not Haith. In Shaa Allah if there’s anything else I will let you guys now. Jazakallah

I have also provided additional charts and calendar tracking.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Sister in Islam,

We apologise for the belated response.

You state that you gave birth on the 22nd of April at 6pm.

You also stated that you bled till 22nd May, then spotted on 30th May again at 11:30am, which was your 38th day and about 18 hrs.

Accordingly, in line with the provided dates, and as completion of 40 days of Nifaas, you had to take a ghusl on the 1st of June at 6pm and you will be considered pure (Paak) thereafter.

If you performed ghusl later than this time and date, you will have to make Qadha of any missed Salah and Fasts from 6pm on the 1st of June.

You also state that you have experienced on and off (irregular) spotting/bleeding since your Nifaas ended.

In principle, a Nifaas and a Haidh must be separated by a valid Tuhr (Purity). Due to your irregular spotting/bleeding (which has carried on till the 16th of June), such a Tuhr has not been found.

Therefore, you will revert to your previous Tuhr and Haidh habits.

In accordance with the dates and charts you provided, your habit is 30 days Tuhr and 5 days Haidh.

Accordingly, the spotting experienced from the 1st of June is Istihaadha. If this irregular spotting carries on for 30 days, it will all be Istihaadha. Thereafter, 5 days will be Haidh.

In the event this irregular spotting discontinues for a period of 15 days or more, we advise you to revert to the Darul Iftaa for further clarity.

We advise you to diligently record your spotting/bleeding this month and the next.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
