Question
Salaam
can a husband give his wife janazah ghusl?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Upon the demise of a spouse, the relationship of nikah ceases for the husband but remains to an extent for the wife. That is why a wife will sit in iddah after the demise of the husband.
Accordingly, it is not permissible for the husband to give ghusl to his deceased wife as the laws of nikah have ceased in his right.[1] However, the wife can give ghusl to her deceased husband in the event there are no men around to fulfil this duty.
Note: It is still permissible for the husband to see his deceased wife before burial just as it is permissible for the wife to see her deceased husband before burial.
