Question

Asw ww

hope you well

I want to find out that if one goes for umrah and stays few days in Makkah and few days in Madina.. is the person supposed to read sunnah namaz because technically if we see, he is a Musafir who stays less than 15 days and also Fardh he will pray full rakaats behind the imam and esha witr also needs to be prayed, but are sunnats also supposed to be read..?

and if any person who is a Musafir whether locally traveling or international if he/she wants to read all rakaats including sunnah and nafl, can he/she read full.. example all 12 rakaats of dhuhr or all 17 rakaats of esha

jazakallah khair

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Shari’ah has granted a musafir leniency with regards to his salah. Therefore, the fardh salah is shortened and the emphasis on the sunnah salah is dropped.[1] The only exception is the two sunnah of fajr.

If a musafir performs all the sunan and nawaafil, then that is highly meritorious and rewarding. Should he decide not to perform the sunan and nawaafil, there is no sin on him.

Having said that, when one goes for umrah, the sole purpose of this trip is ibaadah. If at this time we do not perform extra salah (sunnah and nafl), when will we do so?
