Question

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

If a person believes the prophet has knowledge of the five things only Allah knows like ilmus sa’ah do they become kaafir?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Almighty Allah says in Surah Luqman, Verse 34,

Translation: “Indeed only Allah alone possesses knowledge of the final hour, and He (knows how much) rain He sends, and He knows that which is in the wombs. No soul knows what it will earn tomorrow (only Allah knows), and no soul knows in which land it will die (only Allah knows). Indeed, Allah is All-Knowing, All-Informed,”

In principle, if one attributes full knowledge of these things to Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, i.e. just as Almighty Allah knows the hour, the wombs, the sustenance, the deaths, similarly, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam also knows all that equally, then this is Shirk.

However, if one believes, that Almighty Allah can give certain knowledge to Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, i.e. he is informed by Almighty Allah, as and when Almighty Allah wishes, of when some people may die, or when rains may be sent, or what child will be born etc, then there is no problem with this as it is an accepted fact that Almighty Allah shared with His prophets some knowledges of the unseen.
