Can a female live with her father in law

Question

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته.
Please enlighten shariah ruling if husband is out for medical for his mother and wife stays home with kids and father in law .
What is Islamic ruling for wife to stay with father in law ?
Please advise…

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Ones father-in-law is a mahram, as such, there is no harm in living in the same house in the absence of the husband. However, if there is a potential for fitnah, such that both the father-in-law and the daughter in law are very young, and they would be living in such an area where they would not be seen by other people at all, and the children are very young, for example 6 years or less, then it would be prudent to ask another family member, such as an aunt, sister, etc, to come and stay as well. If the children are older, then there is no need to ask other family members to come stay as well.
