Question
Assalamualaikum.
Wanted to ask
1) what qualities make a person applicable for zakaat?
2) which family memebers are excluded from been given zakaat to.

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
- If the total value of an individual’s assets after deducting liabilities and excluding basic necessities (such as a house, clothes, one car) are less than the Nisaab amount, he/she is a deserving recipient of Zakat. You may refer to the financial indices on our website to see the current Nisaab amount.
- Zakat cannot be given to one’s ascendants and descendants.[1]
