Question
We (a few people) are having an event where people from the community hire out stalls where they will sell things.
We are charging k200 for the hiring of the stall. Then whatever the make after selling their products is their own. They just pay us for the stalls.
The money we collect from stalls we wanted to use that to buy gifts for some games we will be hosting.
So wanted to know if its permissible to use the money we make from the stalls to buy gifts for the games.
Personally I feel we are the owners of that money and can spend it as we like but someone said its not right hence my asking
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The funds collected are in lieu of hiring a stall, which is a tangible service/product that has been received. Therefore, the funds may be used to fund prizes for games.[1] Furthermore, it is apparent that most of the people taking part in the games will not be the stall operators, hence, they have no relation to the transaction between the stall operator and the stall lessor.
