Question
Do we have to inform the recipient when we give them sadakah . Can we give sadakah to anyone ?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Sadaqah can be given to any individual, even non-Muslims. Since poverty stricken Sayyids (lineage of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam) do not receive their rights from the state treasury, Sadaqah can be given to them too.[1]
One should not inform the recipient that this is Sadaqah. Rather, if one goes out of their way to make it seem like a gift given out of love, then Insha-Allah, one may be rewarded even more as one has protected the honour of another individual.
