Question
Assalamu Alaikum
What is the Islamic ruling/view regarding breastfeeding while being pregnant?

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said,
عَنْ جُدَامَةَ بِنْتِ وَهْبٍ، أُخْتِ عُكَّاشَةَ، قَالَتْ: حَضَرْتُ رَسُولَ اللهِ صَلَّى اللهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ، فِي أُنَاسٍ وَهُوَ يَقُولُ: لَقَدْ هَمَمْتُ أَنْ أَنْهَى عَنِ الْغِيلَةِ، فَنَظَرْتُ فِي الرُّومِ وَفَارِسَ، فَإِذَا هُمْ يُغِيلُونَ أَوْلَادَهُمْ، فَلَا يَضُرُّ أَوْلَادَهُمْ ذَلِكَ شَيْئًا
Translation: “I intended to prohibit you from Ghaylah (breastfeeding whilst pregnant) then I noticed that the Romans and Persians do so with their children and it does not harm them at all.” (Muslim – 1442)
It is permissible for a woman to breastfeed a child whilst pregnant. If she fears her health or the health of the child may be significantly compromised, she should consult a reliable Muslim physician and act on his/her advice.
