Question

After my kaka passed away (may Allah grant him jamnah) I used the money he had left behind in my business meaning i bought items to sell for the shop.. so you know how zakaat time normally what needs to be done is take stock of the items in the shop and pay zakaat accordingly so my question is do I have to pay zakaat for that amount of my kakas money seperate or it is included in my stock

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, funds left behind by the deceased whether kept aside or kept in a business, form part of his/her estate.

In the enquired situation, if only funds of his were used, no more, then you shall pay zakat on your full stock, however, you are required to immediately reimburse the heirs of your late uncle the funds used to purchase stock.[1]
