Question
Slmz.can a woman in ihram apply surma?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
If the kohl (surmah) has scent (perfume) within it, it is not permissible to apply at all. If it does not have any scent/perfume, and is not worn for Zeenah (adornment), rather out of following the sunnah, then it is permissible.[1]
People who have a habit of applying surmah as a sunnah during the rest of the year may do so during Ihraam. There is a very fine line between applying surmah for adornment and applying it because it is sunnah. Therefore, people who do not habitually apply surmah during the rest of the year should avoid doing so during Ihraam too.
