Question
I’m in makkah right now. I got my haidh and now I feel like I should take a pill because all my days in makkah will be gone. Is it allowed to do that?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
There is no shar’i prohibition against taking medication to delay, stop or hasten the onset of haidh.
Having said that, in our experience, taking pills often still results in a little bleeding/spotting for a few days (often enough to begin the haidh) and if it works in delaying the haidh, it also often ends up causing havoc with one’s menstrual cycle habits later on, creating issues regarding salah. Therefore, we advise against taking the pill. Almighty Allah is the one who called you to the Haramayn. And He is the one who knows that you are on haidh. So do not think that your time is wasted. Suffice with what remains permissible to do during Haidh. Visit areas of the Haramayn that do not require Tahaarah to enter.
