Question

From Ulama’s perspective, what are difference between the shia and sunni?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The Shia sect hold different views on a few fundamentals of religion which are not acceptable according to the Ahlus Sunnah wal Jama’ah (Sunni). Some of them are as follows:[1]

  1. They believe that the Holy Quran is distorted and incomplete.
  2. They believe that the majority of Sahabah turned murtad (العياذ بالله) after the demise of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam or they were munafiqs.
  3. They regard the status of their 12 Imams to be higher than the other Ambiyaa Alayhimus Salaam.

These are some of the fundamentals upon which we differ. Belief in the above would render one a disbeliever.
