Question
Assallamualikum wa rahmatullah wa barkatuh
Does a stepmom have to do pardah from husband’s son?

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, the stepson is a mahram (one with whom marriage is prohibited) to his stepmother. Therefore, it is not necessary for the stepmother to observe Hijaab from her stepson. [i]
However, if the stepson and stepmother are of a similar age or there is a fear of fitnah, then they should avoid being together in seclusion.

وَالثَّالِث ابناء الزَّوْج وَبَنُو اولاده وان سفلوا يحرمُونَ على امْرَأَته وَتحرم هِيَ عَلَيْهِم دخل بهَا اَوْ لم يدْخل لقَوْله تَعَالَى {وَلَا تنْكِحُوا مَا نكح آباؤكم من النِّسَاء}

وكذلك منكوحة الأب حرام على الابن دخل بها الأب أو لم يدخل لقوله تعالى {، ولا تنكحوا ما نكح آباؤكم} [النساء: 22]
