Question
I have been wanting to go to Umrah for the past few years, Alhamdullilah I am financial able to do so. My father is currently not able to go with me and so is my older brother. I have a younger brother who is 18 years of age. He is what we call a hothead, I fear he will not know how to behave and will cause much problems and worries causing my Umrah to be invalid. I have read that a woman can perform the Umrah without a mahram. I personally am not convinced of this being true. Going in a group is a lot more expensive than going alone. Am I allowed to go alone?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is not permissible for a woman to travel without a mahram.[1] If your brother is not suitable, then we advise you to be patient and wait until you can find a suitable mahram to go with you on your umrah journey. Almighty Allah is aware of our thoughts and intentions. With the right intention, He will even reward us for good deeds we were unable to perform especially due to matters beyond our control.
