Question
Assalamu alaykum WW
In the trucking industry we have contracts which require us to have Goods In Transit insurance cover especially for High Value Cargo. Is it permissible to pay the premium and get the insurance cover in order to meet the contract requirements and is it permissible to claim from the same insurance where the high value cargo is hijacked? Also advise permissibility in the case of hijack of the high value cargo, if the insurance house and the client liase between themselves and client claims directly from the insurance cover we have paid premiums for

Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is not permissible as a transporter to insure goods one has been hired to transport.
Alternatively, one may ask the owner of the goods to directly insure his goods and the transporting invoice should be reduced proportionally.
One may also make use of certified shariah compliant Takaaful schemes if they are available.
