Question
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله و بركاته
I wanted to ask
In the earlier days, i earned most of my money through gambling
Later the money i earned i used it to start a halaal business, but the thought keeps troubling me about my capital being haraam
Please guide me on my situation i have realized my mistake and don’t want to attain allahs wrath
How can i make up my mistake
Because i can’t close down my business because it’s my primary source of income
Kindly guide me

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Respected Brother,
Your worry and concern over your sustenance is commendable. Gambling is a major sin and one must make tawbah and istighfaar.
In principle, proceeds of gambling are impermissible and must be given away to the poor without intention of reward.
If such money was used to create a business, then as of now, one must try and assess how much of the initial capital was from gambling and how much was his own pure money. The amount that is ascertained to be from gambling proceeds must be given away to the poor.
The business as it stands will be permissible to operate and its proceeds are halal and permissible. However, it is necessary to discharge the amount of initial capital from gambling proceeds.
