Question
Assalamualaikum,
I have some questions; the first three is about my close friend’s doubt on tabbaruk. The fourth one is asked to me by my friend’s vegan colleague in Singapore.
1) If the Prophet SAW was just a normal man, why is his sweat, urine, blood and saliva not like that of a normal man?
2) Could female sahabahs who were non mahram do tabbaruk of Rasululah’s SAW sweat, urine, blood and saliva?
3) Could Sahabahs refuse to do tabbaruk of Rasululah’s SAW sweat, urine, blood and saliva
Basically want to know if we claim he SAW is a normal man why is his sweat, urine, blood and saliva not the same as a normal man? Does it just boil down to believing or could there be logical/biological reasons.
4) Could you please explain how the muslim organizations in Singapore/Abroad makes milk halal? Specifically, my friend’s colleague is curious if muslims consider milk from calves that are separated from their mother cows to increase milk production; to be halal?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Tabarruk means to obtain blessing. It is known and logical that anything that is beloved to Allah enjoys special blessings. The Ka’ba on its own would not hold value were it not for the fact that Allah has named it ‘His house’. Similarly, the Ambiya Alayhimus Salaam are chosen servants of Allah. They are human, but they will enjoy a status not enjoyed by others, just as a pious person enjoys a status a sinner is deprived of.
If certain people or things are blessed, it is permissible for others to obtain blessing through them too. That is how we understand the concept of Tabarruk.
So the blessings found within the Mubarak body, hair, sweat, blood etc of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam do not render him as not-human. Similarly, tabarruk is not only restricted to the Mubarak body of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam. It is also permissible to gain blessings through items of pious people too such as their clothing etc.
As for your second query, both males and females can get tabarruk through such items as it does not go against any law of Shari’ah.
As for your third query, why would anyone who actively witnessed the blessings and effects of the Mubarak leftover ablution water, sweat, spit etc of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam not do tabarruk with it?
As for your fourth query, we do not know what process of halal certification is followed in Singapore. However, as a default, pure cattle milk is always halal, even if calves are separated from the mothers. One should not conflate the term Halal with ethics.
