Question
اسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Mufti sab, I wanted to ask one mas’ala.
I have a small business where I design and sell digital items like designing event posters, designing logos for customers, calendars, etc.
Sometime back, I was approached by a client to design a logo for their business. After communicating back and forth, a logo was finally made with all necessary adjustments requested by the client. The final logo was agreed upon and accepted by the client. And right away, I sent the invoice.
They said they would send the payment at the end of the month. But two weeks later, they wanted a modification to the logo and I was unable to modify due to software limitations and I communicated to them about this. And they rejected the logo.
So can I still demand payment for the initial invoice I sent them since it took time and effort to create the logo?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
If the logo was created and then accepted by the client, you have a right to invoice them and demand payment for the service provided.
For the future, it is safer to bill the client from the get-go, and then adjustments can be made to the final bill should the need arise. You as the designer will be considered to be an employee hired for a specific task for a fee.[1]

درر الحكام شرح غرر الأحكام (2/ 235) [1]
وَإِنَّمَا يَسْتَحِقُّ) أَيْ لَا يَسْتَحِقُّ الْأَجِيرُ الْمُشْتَرَكُ (الْأَجْرَ) إلَّا (بِعَمَلِهِ كَالصَّبَّاغِ وَنَحْوِهِ) ؛ لِأَنَّ الْإِجَارَةَ عَقْدُ مُعَاوَضَةٍ فَتَقْتَضِي الْمُسَاوَاةَ بَيْنَ الْعِوَضَيْنِ فَمَا لَمْ يُسَلِّمْ الْمَعْقُودَ عَلَيْهِ لِلْمُسْتَأْجِرِ وَهُوَ الْعَمَلُ لَا يُسَلِّمُ لِلْأَجِيرِ الْعِوَضَ وَهُوَ الْأَجْرُ

( فَصْلٌ ) : وَأَمَّا صِفَةُ الْإِجَارَةِ فَالْإِجَارَةُ عَقْدٌ لَازِمٌ إذَا وَقَعَتْ صَحِيحَةً عَرِيَّةً عَنْ خِيَارِ الشَّرْطِ وَالْعَيْبِ وَالرُّؤْيَةِ عِنْدَ عَامَّةِ الْعُلَمَاءِ ، فَلَا تُفْسَخُ مِنْ غَيْرِ عُذْرٍ
