Question
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
If this isn’t too late, Darul Ifta Birmingham says bubble-gum necessitates dhamm if chewed in Ihram.
By that logic, would toothpaste be jaa’iz to use?
And if bubble-gum is chewed, would that necessitate dhamm actually?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is makrooh to use toothpaste whilst in Ihram. However, doing so will neither necessitate damm nor sadaqah.[1] The same will be applicable to chewing gum. This is because both toothpaste and chewing gum are not fragrances in essence nor is the fragrance found in them dominant.
