I’ve got a query and would value your help
With regards to meat in the UAE, how do you determine what is lawful (Halaal) and what is not when travelling?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Local Ulama in these places say that chicken that is locally sourced is hand slaughtered and is permissible. Imported chicken, especially from Brazil is usually machine slaughtered, hence should be avoided.
As for beef/mutton, it is usually imported from either USA, Australia, and New Zealand. These places have their own reliable halal authorities. If the meat is from these authorised places, then it is permissible.
Practically, it is very difficult to find out where the meat is actually from, and which body has authorised it. Hence, one should only confine himself to locally hand slaughtered meat.
There has also been a recent spike in local machine slaughter. Hence, caution is the best course of action.
