Question
Is a lady permitted to wear a blouse or t shirt short sleeve Infront of mahram
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The awrah of a woman infront of her mahrams is less strict when compared to strangers. Infront of mahrams, her face, head, chest, arms and calves may be exposed. The rest of the body must remain covered.[1]
A Mu’min and Haya (modesty) go hand in hand. Shari’ah has emphasised modesty and it is a salient feature of Muslims.
Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said,
الحياء والإيمان قرناء جميعا فإذا رفع أحدهما رفع الآخر
Translation: “Hayaa (modesty) and Imaan are partners, if anyone of them is removed, then the other is also removed.” (Al-Adab Al-Mufrad)
Wearing loose short sleeves shirts would be permissible infront of mahrams. Tight clothing should be avoided. In today’s time of widespread corruption, one must be more cautious when infront of young mahrams.
