Question

Assalamu alaykum mufti saheb,

Regarding reading a dua after tea, would we read the water dua or the milk dua or both? Or none since it is not water or milk anymore?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

The purpose of dua after consuming food and drink is to express gratitude to Almighty Allah for the favours He has bestowed upon us.

Therefore, since there is no specific dua transmitted related to drinking tea, one may recite any dua, be it the one for water, the one for milk, or simply saying Alhamdulillah.

Translation: Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said: “Indeed Allah is pleased with His slave who when he eats a morsal of food or takes a sip of a drink, says Alhamdulillah.” (Muslim)[1]
