Question
Selam aleykum
I have just 1 question, it was about choosing opinions about 1 subject given in islam
1) If 1 school of thought say 1 thing and 1 opinion is given, which scholars, ulema, imam or if there is a consensus, what do we have to do ?
I know first we have to do what the prophet Mohamed saws did but sometimes there are differents opinions in 1 school of thought
Do we have to take the opinion that seem the more logic ? Or there is a priority when we choose the opinion ?
BarakAllah oufik for your answer
Thank you
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Each school of thought (madhab) has what is known as the ‘preferred view’. For a muqallid of a madhab, he/she should follow the preferred view of his school of thought. Know that each madhab at the end of the day is deducing every law from the Quran and Sunnah. As such, by following the preferred view of the madhab, one will be following the Quran and Sunnah. In order to ascertain the preferred view of that madhab, one needs to ask a competent accredited Mufti of that madhab and follow what he says.
One should stick to one madhab in order to ensure that ones desires do not overcome the individual, thereby falling into the trap of practicing whatever is convenient. This is not Deen.
