Zakat on chickens purchased for laying eggs

Question
We have an egg farm where birds are purchased for laying eggs. But as they age, they will eventually be sold. What is zakat due on?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Zakaat will only be due on the eggs at their selling price. The chickens will not be zakatable.[1]
