Question
Assalamualaikum
I’m doing cake business, if a person comes up to me and requests me to make them mothers day cake, am I allowed to make it?

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
These occasions are a hallmark of the disbelievers as they have brought them into existence. Islam has nothing to do with them. As a general rule, Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam did not like Muslims imitating the ways of the disbelievers, to such an extent, that even the disbelievers noticed this and said that this man always finds a way to do things different to our ways.
It is permissible to bake and sell a cake to someone. However, one should refrain from decorating it with the word’s happy birthday, Mother’s Day, valentines, etc. If the customer wishes, they may do so themselves. Alternatively, one may simply give the placards to the customer, and it is upto the customer to put it on the cake or not.
If the cakes are sold with the relevant slogans, then the income will become tainted (Makrooh) albeit permissible.[1]
