Question

Is “uplak” allowed? if so to what extent is it allowed?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In principle, Shari’ah recognises the need for genuine taxation imposed by the government in order to maintain the nation. However, Shar’iah does not recognise ‘unjust taxes’ or ‘exorbitant taxes’.

Accordingly, it is permissible to navigate one’s way through these dilemmas and maximise one’s own gain. Contrary to popular belief, there are many legal stratagems that can also be employed to maximise ones gains.
