Question
Assalamualaikum warahmatullah I was asked 2 questions with one brother he said:
1. if person start a business with halal money but doesn’t want to Have proper papers from government because it will cost him more money
2. Someone doesn’t pay taxes when doing his business
Is these two questions are income going to be halal?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
The income is halal.
It is not befitting for a Muslim to put himself in a situation wherein he may cause humiliation to himself or his faith.
عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: لَا يَنْبَغِي لِلْمُؤْمِنِ أَنْ يُذِلَّ نَفْسَهُ قَالُوا: وَكَيْفَ يُذِلُّ نَفْسَهُ؟ قَالَ: يَتَعَرَّضُ مِنَ البَلَاءِ لِمَا لَا يُطِيقُ
Translation: Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam said, “It is not befitting for a Muslim to degrade/humiliate himself. The Sahabah asked, how would he do so? He replied, by taking on a burden he cannot bear.” (Tirmidhi – 2254)[1]

2254 – حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ بَشَّارٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَاصِمٍ قَالَ: حَدَّثَنَا حَمَّادُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ، عَنْ عَلِيِّ بْنِ زَيْدٍ، عَنْ الحَسَنِ، عَنْ جُنْدَبٍ، عَنْ حُذَيْفَةَ قَالَ: قَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ: «لَا يَنْبَغِي لِلْمُؤْمِنِ أَنْ يُذِلَّ نَفْسَهُ» قَالُوا: وَكَيْفَ يُذِلُّ نَفْسَهُ؟ قَالَ: «يَتَعَرَّضُ مِنَ البَلَاءِ لِمَا لَا يُطِيقُ»: هَذَا حَدِيثٌ حَسَنٌ غَرِيبٌ
