Zakaat to siblings, in-laws, and relatives

Question
Assalamualaikum warahmatullah wabarakaatuh. Zakat of crops has become farz on me can I give my father in-law or my brother is law or sister in-law or my own brother because all of these are poor and they are need of food
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, zakat can be given to anyone besides one’s ascendents, descendants, and spouses,[1] provided that:
- They are Muslim[2]
- They are poor i.e. their net worth excluding basic necessities is less than the nisaab amount[3]
Accordingly, zakaat can be given to ones in laws and siblings provided they fulfill the two conditions above. One will be rewarded twofold for doing so. Firstly, for discharging the obligation and secondly for assisting one’s relatives.[4]

والأفضل صرفها للأقرب فالأقرب من كل ذي رحم محرم منه ثم لجيرانه ثم لأهل محلته ثم لأهل حرفته ثم لأهل بلدته وقال الشيخ أبو حفص الكبير رحمه الله لا تقبل صدقة الرجل وقرابته محاويج حتى يبدأ بهم فيسد حاجتهم
