Question
السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
Mufti saheb I hope you’re well.
If someone is having a dentist appointment (urgent need) in Ramadhan and it will almost definitely break their fast (despite informing the dentist etc), and the appointment cannot be rearranged quickly, what should they do?
Should they fast that day or not fast?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
If possible, one should try to schedule an appointment for before/after fasting hours. If this is not possible, then one must still fast. If something goes down the throat during the appointment, the fast will break and one qadha will be necessary. No kaffarah is necessary.
