Abortion if pregnant after previous C section

Question

Assalamu’alaykumWW

A lady had a c section. Doctors advise against another baby for at least 2 years after. If tge lady gets pregnant before that, will an abortion be permissible?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Abortion is a grave matter as it is tantamount to murder in certain circumstances. It is generally Haram unless for a genuine reason where life and death hangs in the balance.

Pregnancy some time after a C section is not necessarily a cause for concern. Many factors can determine whether or not it can be safe or will be harmful. Therefore, if one does fall pregnant after a previous C section, if there was sufficient time for the body to heal, then abortion remains impermissible. If not, then the woman must seek the advice of a pious Muslim doctor who understands the gravity of abortion. She should then practice upon the advice of such a competent pious Muslim doctor.
