Question
Respected ulama
I would like to know if the websites Quraan. Com and Sunnah.com are authentic and can be used?
I would also please like to know if despite being blessed by Allah with the bounties and favors of having a bed and pillows can I abandon them and sleep on a straw mat in hopes of following sunnah?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Quraan.com contains translations as well as explanations of the verses of the Holy Quran. The user is able to select a specific translation as well as explanation. Unfortunately, we cannot comment on all. However, it is safe to use Quran translations of M.Taqi (Rahimahullah) and Saheeh international. As for tafseer, one may select Ibn Kathir or Ma’ariful Quran.
Sunnah.com contains translations with the Arabic hadith books. This is suitable for use.
If one aims to follow the sunnah, that is commendable and praiseworthy. It should be noted that whilst one may do so for personal use, it should not be imposed on others. Similarly, if one is married, and this method of sleep is not suitable for ones spouse, it would be better to share a common bed instead of separating the bedding due to one spouse wishing to sleep on leather and the other on a mattress.
As for the actual bedding of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, see the following:
Translation: “The bedding of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam was made of leather stuffed with palm fiber. In the version of Saheeh Muslim: The pillow of Rasulullah Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam, which he reclined against, was made of leather stuffed with palm fiber.” (Bukhari-Muslim)
