Question
اسلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته
I just wanted to ask I have some mens jabbah for sale from two years now is it permissible to remove it as zakah instead of giving Zakah money
Jazakallahukhair
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In general, giving dead stock in Zakaat is discouraged as it is against the spirit of Zakaat. The obligation will be fulfilled, but the reward and spirituality will be deficient.
However, clothing is something which despite being dead stock to yourself, remains perfectly usable and still valued by a poor person. Therefore, it would be permissible without dislike to give such clothes in Zakaat provided one makes an additional effort to give the clothes to those whom it will fit properly.
