Madhab of Imam Hafs

Question

السلام عليكم ورحمة الله وبركاته

Mufti sahib what was the fiqhi madhab of Imam Hafs bin Sulayman?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Imam Hafs Rahimahullah (died 180AH) is one of the prominent Quraa through whom we recite the Qiraa’ah of Imam Aasim Rahimahullah. He was before the time of the 4 madhabs. He was born and raised in Kufa, Iraq and in a similar time frame as Imam Abu Hanifa Rahimahullah.

Therefore, he is not affiliated to any of the 4 madhabs. Rather, he is simply affiliated to the fiqh of the people of Iraq as was the norm of the non-Mujtahid learned people of the time.
