Question
Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakaatuhu
When a lady is given the first talaq is eddah wajib on her?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
A divorced woman is required to observe Iddah (waiting period) for three menstrual cycles if she experiences menses, or three months if she does not experience menses or till childbirth if she has conceived. This is regardless of whether a woman was granted one or more Talaaqs.[1]

وَالْعِدَّةُ فِي اللُّغَةِ: أَيَّامُ أَقْرَاءِ الْمَرْأَةِ، وَفِي الشَّرِيعَةِ: تَرَبُّصٌ يَلْزَمُ الْمَرْأَةَ عِنْدَ زَوَالِ مِلْكِ الْمُتْعَةِ مُتَأَكَّدًا بِالدُّخُولِ أَوْ الْخَلْوَةِ أَوْ الْمَوْتِ، وَهُوَ: أَيْ هَذَا الزَّوَالُ سَبَبُهَا.
