Question
Is flying a Kite permissible?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
In principle, activities that do not directly contradict the Shari’ah are permissible in nature provided there are no external elements to render it impermissible or undesirable.[1]
Accordingly, it is permissible to fly kites with the following conditions:[2]
- It is not done to commemorate or celebrate an occasion or festival
- It does not result in neglect in ones Deeni (Salah etc.) and worldly obligations
- It is free from all elements of gambling

وقد بينا هذا الفصل إلا أنه ذكره هنا بلفظ يستدل به على أنه كان من مذهبه أن الأصل في الأشياء الإباحة، وأن الحرمة بالنهي عنها شرعا

والأصل في الأشياء الإباحة. قال الله سبحانه وتعالى: {هُوَ الَّذِي خَلَقَ لَكُمْ مَا فِي الْأَرْضِ جَمِيعًا} [البقرة: 29] وقال سبحانه وتعالى: {قُلْ مَنْ حَرَّمَ زِينَةَ اللَّهِ الَّتِي أَخْرَجَ لِعِبَادِهِ} [الأعراف: 32]

وعلی هذا الأصل: فالأ لعاب التي یقصد بها ریاضة الأبدان، أو الأذهان جائزة في نفسها، مالم تشتمل علی معصية أخریٰ، وما لم یؤد الانهماک فيها إلی الإخلال بواجب الإنسان في دینه ودنیاه، واﷲ سبحانه أعلم
