Question

Assalam alaykum if for lack of time , in salah, a person recites just  “Allahumma swalli ‘alaa Muhammadin wa ‘alaa Aali Muhammad” after the tashahhud, is his preyar valid? b) Is his prayer valid if he recites just the first half (swalli ‘alaa) of swalawaat Ibrahimiyyah, and leaves the second part (Allahumma baril ‘alaa…) c) If he recites trhe short swalawaat as in the first question, can he recite a short quranic dua or masnoon dua thereafter?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

It is sunnah to recite durood Ibrahim and a dua after the tashahhud in salah. Omission of the durood and dua will not nullify the salah. If this is done often without reason, then one will be neglecting the sunnah of Rasulullah (Sallallahu Alaihi Wasallam).[1]

Reciting a shorter durood is still better than no durood at all. However, one should recite the prescribed durood Ibrahim in its entirety.[2]

It is permissible to recite other duas prescribed in the Holy Quran and ahadith after the durood provided the dua is not similar to the speech of people.[3]
