Question

For the past few months I have been suffering from severe waswasa regarding prayer. I have the tendency to keep repeating my salah after trying to correct pronunciation many times causing me to break salah as well. Sometimes I will feel really angered and cause physical harm to myself, even curse, throw the prayer mat. Sometimes I’ve said “I can’t pray” eventually try again and again until I feel satisfied. I delay some of my prayers because of this issue and it is tiring myself out. I really want to know if I have committed kufr.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother/Sister in Islam,

The very fact that you keep repeating your Salah and try again and again is a sign of your strong faith. Only a believer would have so much concern for his/her prayers.

There is no reason to fear Kufr over yourself. Push away such thoughts from your mind.

It is also imperative that you seek medical counsel and treat your condition. There exist many types of therapies today to assist individuals in your predicament. Some have proven to be quite beneficial. Seek the help of a local medical practitioner who is experienced in dealing with OCD.

We pray to Almighty Allah for Shifaa and hope that your path is made easy for you.

And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
