Question
Salaams, I would like to enquire on your take on fixed returns investments, for example a friend asked me to invest $10000 as principal amount with a fixed return of $500 monthly, when I need my principle amount I have to give him a months’ notice and I can retrieve my principle amount back. Is this permissible?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Brother in Islam,
It is not permissible to receive a fixed lump sum amount as profit. That will be considered as Interest.
The Shariah Compliant alternative is that the investor and the entrepreneur mutually agree to share a percentage of the net profit, for example, 60% and 40%. [1]
The above principle could work with different investment models.
You may refer to the Darul Iftaa for further details on your investment model.
