Question
Asslaamu Alaikum.
I have a shop in a print on demand website where I put up several designs on different merchandise and if someone happens to buy a product with my design on it, I get profits.
All of my designs do not contain any picture of animate objects, however, if a customer clicks and scrolls on my product page, there is a section called ‘similar designs’ where designs from other sellers are also displayed. Now, I am worried that those designs might contain images of animate objects as I do not have any control on what is being displayed in that section.
I wanted to know if all the profits that I earn will be permissible for me if customers purchase products with my designs but might have seen pictures of animate objects (from other sellers) in their devices on my product pages?
I hope that I have written this question in an understandable way. Please reply, as I have worked hard in making and putting up the designs.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
We commend you for your sensitivity on earning halal and abstaining from haram. It is this attitude that brings Barakah (blessings) in one’s earnings. Your attitude is praiseworthy.
Shari’ah has emphasized on earning Halaal income.
Nabi (ﷺ) said:
طَلَبُ كَسْبِ الْحَلَالِ فَرِيضَةٌ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ
Translation: Earning of Halal income is an obligation beyond other obligations.
(Shuabul Imaan, Baihaqi)
The income derived from selling non-Animate pictures will be Halaal. The viewing of ‘similar pictures’ by your clients will not affect your income.
And Allah Ta’āla Knows Best
