Question
Assalamualaikum,
My wife is pregrant, Alhumdulillah. She is prescribed for a prenatal medicine that contain Gelatin from pork. Is it permissible, as this a medicine? This is the first time in US, and i’m not sure how the doctor would react if i ask her to prescribe halal medicines.
Please help me here in providing clarification.
Jazakallahu Khair,
Kareem.
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Brother in islam,
May the Almighty bless you with pious, obedient children. Aameen.
Gelatine derived from a non halal animal will be impermissible to consume.
Medication containing Haram ingredients is not permissible for consumption unless prescribed by a reliable Muslim doctor who offers assurance that there are no suitable efficient Halal alternatives to the Haram medication.[1]
