Can an Ayah Be Used As A Monogram?

Question

The monogram of a University contains one ayat of the Quran (Rabbi jidnee ilma) in Arabic word with meaning in Bangla language. But it is observed that this monogram is frequently used in letter pad, answer sheet of examination of all the departments, lecture desk, side of bus & microbus, etc. Teachers of all religions give recommendation letters for the old students, use visiting card, write news to their friends. At last all the papers with this monogram are dropped in floor, road, drain and many papers are sold to shop. In this condition it is not possible to preserve the monogram. At this situation is it right to use the monogram with the ayat of Quran? If not is it possible to write the ayat in Bangla languge? or only meaning of the ayat in bangla language? Please give the answer in detail?

Answer

The Qur’aan is the word of Allah and a symbol of Deen. Hence, it deserves the highest level of respect. Allah states in the Qur’aan:

“O you who believe! Do not violate the (sanctity of the) symbols of Allah …”[1]

We understand that those who created and designed the monogram have used the verse as a du’a. Hence, the verse in this situation will not take the ruling of the Qur’aan. Rather, it shall be merely considered a du’a.[2] As such it is permissible to utilise the verse in the monogram.

وأما قراءة القران : قالوا : إن القرآن يخرج عن كونه قرانا بالقصد فجوزوا للجنب والحائض قراءة ما فيه من الأذكار بقصد الذكر والأدعية بقصد الدعاء
