Question
Assalamu alaikum,
I am newly married. My husband and I had intercourse. The next day I had the intention to wake up for suhoor and make my ghusl before praying fajr. Unfortunately, I did not wake up for suhoor or fajr. When I did awake, I showered and performed ghusl and have been fasting. Is my fast valid even though I didn’t have ghusl before fajr?
Jazakallah
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
Sister in Islam,
May Almighty Allah bless your marriage.
In principle, Tahaarah is not a prerequisite for the fast to be valid. It will be necessary to take a Fardh ghusl. However, one should ensure that water does not pass the throat whilst gargling the mouth. Your Ramadhaan fast is valid.
