Question
Assalamualeykum,
Do you have an email or something where we can ask fiqh related questions? I’m in the middle of something, and really short on time. Just want to do the right thing. So I’ll post my query here, hoping for some guidance asap.
I work as a freelance content writer and copywriter and am currently communicating with a potential client. I just wanted to know if you have any idea if writing for an insurance company will be haram?
The potential client I’m referring to is a marketing agency. The insurance company is their client. They have 3 clients they want me to edit content for. One of them is a casino type thing which I will clearly refuse. Another one is an insurance company. I was wondering if I can at least agree to two of their clients. Started freelancing a few months ago so landing clients is still a challenge.
I follow the Hanafi madhab.

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
We commend you on your sensitivity of earning a halal income.
Nabi (ﷺ) said:
طَلَبُ كَسْبِ الْحَلَالِ فَرِيضَةٌ بَعْدَ الْفَرِيضَةِ
Translation: Earning of Halal income is an obligation beyond other obligations.
(Shuabul Imaan, Baihaqi)
It is not permissible to work as a freelance content writer for the insurance company, as this would entail assisting in insurance activities. [1]
Allah Taa’la says:
وَلَا تَعَاوَنُوا عَلَى الْإِثْمِ
Translation: “And do not assist one another in sin”
(Surah Al-Maaidha, Aayah 2)
May Allah Taa’la grant you halaal income and keep you away from haraam. Aameen.
