Question
Is it fine for a boy to wear a red shirt? Full red with a print infront?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
It is Makrooh Tahreemi (impermissible) for men to wear garments that have been dyed red with safflower or dyed yellow-orange with saffron.[1]
It is permissible for men to wear clothing of any colour provided it is not dyed with safflower and saffron. However, should a garment be entirely red (but not dyed with safflower), it is Makrooh Tanzeehi (disliked) for men to wear such. If the red garment is broken with other colours as well, then it is permissible to wear such garments without any dislike.
Note: Given the difficulty of ascertaining whether safflower or saffron was used as a dye, it is best to avoid altogether for men.
As for a red topi and imaamah, they are permissible to wear without any dislike.
