Question
Can an ustaad tell a hifz student not to go for jamaat?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
An ustaad is the most qualified person to ascertain what his student requires most to enhance his studies.
If the ustaad is stopping him from going for jamaat due to it resulting in some deficiency in his hifz studies, then the ustaad is correct to do so as that would be in line with the students priorities.
However, if there is no reason for the prohibition, then the ustaad should not discourage students from going for jamaat.
