Question

I want to ask if someone says to Allah that no I won’t do this, is this kufr and if the person says they won’t say no again but don’t intend to do what they said they wont do are obliged to do, is their repentance not valid until they intend to do the act they said no about.

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Brother in Islam,

Your query is not very clear.

If an individual when repenting to Almighty Allah, promises not to commit a sin, this is a sign of his true repentance. Therefore, saying to Almighty Allah “I will not do this in the future” is not kufr, on the contrary, it is part of tawbah and repentance.

On the other hand, if a person refuses to do an action that is fardh, and says to Almighty Allah, he will not do it, then he has committed a grave sin and must repent with haste. He must avoid saying such statements in the future.

Kufr is to reject Almighty Allah and His commands. Neglect of His commands is a major sin, but not kufr.
