Question
Salaams Can a woman who is in menses perform umrah ?
Answer
In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.
If a woman is in her menses, she is to wait until she becomes pure, then perform her umrah. However, if this is not possible and she is unable to prolong her stay (due to prebooked flights etc), she will carry out her umrah in the state of haidh. In this case, the umrah will be valid, but a penalty (damm) will be binding on her.[1] A woman in her menses will enter the state of ihraam before she crosses the meeqaat.
A damm refers to slaughtering an animal (sheep or goat) within Makkah.
