Finding someone else’s money in the car

Question

Aslm ww
I have found money in the car 2 times that do not belong to any1 what shld be done with that money..can it be given in sadqah?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

Firstly, try to ascertain whom the money could belong to based on who uses the car. That should narrow it down significantly. If despite that, one is unable to locate the owner, the money should be given away in sadaqah. In the event someone later turns up saying it was their money, then if they want it back even after you informed them of the sadaqah, you shall have to reimburse them and the reward of sadaqah will be yours.[1]
