Question

Assalamualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

I have a question regarding salaah which I prayed in the state of hadath akbar, and sawm as well.(kept in that state)

Firstly, I had no idea by doing that particular sin, I was putting myself into hadath akbar, thus I would pray salaah in that state of impurity.

Alhamdulillah after attaining an understanding of it, I realised how many salaahs of mine weren’t done because of praying salaah in the state of hadath akbar. I now have to make qadha of all those salaah, but I do not know how to know whether I’m done with praying them all…..all I know is when my heart says Im done, i should stop praying the qadha.

1. Is that right?

2. Is there a more reliable way of knowing when I’ll be done (because I definitely dont remember the amount of salaahs I prayed in that state and I dont think I can trust my heart especially when dealing with salaah,) Alhamdulillah, Allah has made salaah for me such that I take it very seriously, thats why I dont know if I’ll reach a stage when ill be able to tell, okay I think im done with qadha.

3. Is it possible to send a soft copy where I can be recording the amount of qadha I pray….then in sha Allah ill print it and record the qadhas i pray (something like a qadha tracker ?)

4. And what’s the ruling of sawm? I also can’t remember how many I fasted in that state. Is the sawn even counted, or i have to also do qadha for that ?

Answer

In the Name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.

As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh.

In order to ascertain how many salah are pending, one needs to make a cautious overestimate and pinpoint a number. For example, 3 months of salah, or 200 fajr salah and 300 Isha salah etc. Apply your mind and see when you would most likely have performed a salah in that state and try to create a figure. Once you have created this figure, now you must complete it. In order to track this, you may utilise this app.

As for sawm, being in a state of purity is not a pre-requisite of fasting. As such, fasts begun in such a state are valid. However, if you ‘broke’ a fast by doing something that made you into the state of hadith akbar, then qadha (no kaffarah) is necessary. You will need to ascertain how many fasts are pending and track their qadha also.
